Rotorua!

On Tuesday I went to Rotorua with Megan and Caroline. I went there before for adventure weekend with my program but we didn't get to go white water rafting since the water was too high so I figured it would be good to go back again. We went down on Monday night so that we could start the activities right the next morning. The first thing we did was the white water rafting. We went over the biggest commercial waterfall which is 7m high or about 21 feet tall. It was a little scary going over it but it wasn't bad at all. It was actually a little underwhelming but the whole trip was a lot of fun. We were the only ones who booked for that time so we got to go with three guides. They were all having a blast which made it even more fun for us.

Going over the big waterfall.
The zorb coming down with all three of us.
Next up was Zorbing which I had been wanting to do ever since that Rocket Power New Zealand movie. It was such a fun experience. Overpriced but fun. If you don't know what Zorbing is it's when you go into a giant ball and get rolled down a hill. They put some water in there with you so that you don't get any friction between you and the plastic. It basically feels like a really fun and crazy waterside.  We got three rides and tried a different course each time. The first time I went down the one called the drop. It went slow at first then turned a corner and went down a steep drop. The second one was the zig zag which was really crazy. I got thrown around a lot and had no clue where I was going to go next. The last one we all went in one zorb together. You have to go down the straight path if you go together but we went really fast. We were laughing the whole way down.

We wanted to do something with the hot springs for our last activity since Rototua has so much of that. We ended up going to Wai-O-Tapu which has a bunch of hot springs to look at. Caroline was looking up activities and found it. She also found another place where you could swim in mud pools. This place had mud pools too so she figured we would be able to get some swimming in too. We walk up the the entrance with our change of clothes and towel and notice that everyone else is just wearing jeans and people were giving us odd looks. It turns out that you can't swim in these mud pools since they are boiling mud pools. We asked the guy if we were able to swim and he kind of laughed at us. Typical American tourist moment. After bringing our change of clothes back to the car we went in and walked around. It was really cool. There is all kinds of different colored water due to the minerals found in the rocks.
